An Origin Story

Backyard Bodywork began in the literal backyard of my home in Lake Forest Park at the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic. I created Backyard Bodywork out of a desire to create a fresh, open-air massage environment, partially to minimize the chance of sharing highly contagious disease, and mostly to share the tranquility and healing aspects of receiving massage while being surrounded by nature, breathing in fresh air, outside. Here, you could enjoy feeling the soothing breeze on your skin, listen to sweet birdsong, and smell the light scent of flowers or rain on the wind, all while I worked to facilitate ease for your body.

While Backyard Bodywork is no longer outside, my attention to you and your comfort are still and always will be the focus. The massage studio space, located in Seattle’s Lake City neighborhood, allows more personalization to environmental comforts and is less available to nature’s curious critters. What does this look like?

  • A large window that freely opens to allow fresh-air and birdsong into the room, as desired, and to clear or refresh the space between clients.
  • Four walls to better protect us from the elements:
    • No more masking during Smoke Season to protect our lungs,
    • No more knit caps worn for treatments when the temperature drops below 40° F.
  • Heat and A/C, on demand and exclusive to the studio.
  • An air purifier, to minimize dust and seasonal pollen.
  • An electric table to better support you in getting on and off the table.
  • First floor access, no steps required.

I would describe the studio as peaceful, cozy, bright and welcoming. The carpet is plush, the decor is warm, the large windows allow for a lot of natural light. The space simply feels comfortable to be in. And it’s extremely supportive of the type of massage therapy that I provide.
